Of a Girl Who Wanted To Stop the Time
by anonymous
Once upon a time, there was a girl who wanted to stop the time. No matter what was happening in her life, good or bad things, she was always whining:
- Ah, if only i could stop the time. only then i'd be truly happy.
Her wishes would come true, she would experience loving relationships or career successes, but no matter what she could never be satisfied with anything. She just kept repeating:
- Ah, why would i need any of that if i can't stop the time?
One day, right in the middle of the autumn season, she was walking in the park, picking up golden leaves for a bouquet:
- I will dry and preserve you, and you'll stay forever frozen in time, looking just the way you are now. how I wish I could be you.
Suddenly, a beautiful woman dressed in a shiny golden frock appeared from behind the tree:
- Hello little girl. I've heard you have a wish, is it true?
- It is. My heart's wish is to stop the time. But may i ask - who are you?
- I'm the autumn fairy, and i can help you, if you'll give me something that belongs to you in return.
The girl has decided that nothing she had was more precious to her than her wish, so without even clarifying what is it that the fairy wanted, she agreed.
- Alright then - said the fairy, - I will stop the time for you, but in return you'll give me a part of yourself.
The girl wanted to protest or at least bargain for something else, but the fairy was already gone. As soon as she dissapeared, the girl felt horrible pain under her ribs. She fell on the ground, unable to breathe. As panic consumed her, she started looking for the cause of her pain, and immidiately found a sharp metal arrow piercing her ribcage. Far above her she heard the autumn fairy's voice:
- Don't try to take it out - you'll die immidiately. While you have this arrow, the time will be frozen, just as you wanted. It is your moment and you can live in it as long as you like. When you decide to move on, I'll make the arrow dissapear, but in return you'll give me a part of yourself just as we agreed.
The girl almost shouted that she's ready now as the pain is unbearable, but promptly stopped herself, because the fear of losing a part of herself was stronger than the pain. she looked around to find out that she was still in the park, surrounded by beautiful golden leaves shining in the sun.
-Well, this moment is not too bad. And if this is the last moment when i'll be whole, i prefer to spend it amongst the trees in the heart of autumn.
She slowly stood up and carried on with picking up leaves.
